High Stakes Poker On GSN

If you have yet to see or hear about this then you’re really missing out. Every Monday night on GSN at 9:00 eastern time there is poker being shown. Yeah, I know, big whoop-- you can see poker just about every day now on some channel. But straying from the norm of the same old final table action we’ve grown accustomed to comes “High Stakes Poker”, a major cash game with a 100K minimum buy in!

The show is hosted by A.J. Benson, who has been the front man for several television series as well as playing a few movie roles. Alongside A.J. is Gabe Kaplan-- who you’ll probably most remember as Mr. Kotter from the popular sitcom “Welcome Back Kotter”. But Gabe is also an established tournament player and also formerly hosted the World Series of Poker Events until 2003. He also almost won a bracelet this year. I think they do a fine job announcing, as they are both informative and entertaining at the same time, all while not stumbling over the game and player chat.

And what players are chatting? Everyone from poker legends to rich businessmen. Here’s the list of those scheduled to appear throughout the series: Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Sammy Farha, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Todd Brunson, Jennifer Harman, Daniel Alaei, Antonio Esfandiari, Jerry Buss (lakers owner), Sean Sheikhan (or Ass, as I would call him), Amir Nesseri, Bob Stupak, Fred Chaminara, Freddy Deeb, Eli Elezra, Ted Forrest, and Mimi Tran. Whoo that’s a mouthful. Oh, and did I mention they are all playing with their own cash?

And that makes it very interesting. So unlike watching a tournament and they drop 50K in chips and oh well, these guys are dropping hundreds of thousands of dollars sometimes on single hands. As normal these days they game is presented complete with the hole cam, giving us viewers a look into different styles of play to go along with a first time ever chance to see a game such as this taking place--- complete with side bets, running hands twice, etc.

Overall to me this is the most entertaining poker we have to watch on TV right now. So if you get a chance I strongly recommend checking it out!

Still Lurking,
Sack
